Postdoc grant

The Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Porto (CAUP) invites applications for a post-doctoral position in OPTICAL INTERFEROMETRY. The position is for one year starting as soon as possible with a possible extension of up to plus three years.

The postdoc will be activelly involved in the studies for the 2nd generation ESO/VLTI imager instrument concept (VITRUV) lead by Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Grenoble, France (http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0507580; http://arxiv.org/abs/astro-ph/0507233). During her/his first year the postdoc will mainly devote his/her time to the image reconstruction & science teams of the project. In the extended period the postdoc will contribute to the astrophysical exploitation of existing optical interferometers and the instrument studies.

The amount of the grant is 17,940 euros/year, plus a 1750-2000 euros mobility allowance. The amount of grant is very similar to the Portuguese GDP per capita (18k euros/year) ensuring a good standard of living. As a CAUP member the postdoc will have access to the scientific facilities including travell money and the oportunity to involve students in her/his research. Applicants with a radio/sub-mm interferometry imaging experience are encouraged to apply.

CAUP is a young and active research institute situated at the main campus of the University of Porto. It is the top astrophysics instutute in the country and the only ranked excellent in this area by the national science foundation evaluation. The current staff includes 19 researchers plus Ph.D. students and two Master Programs, involving more than 40 postgraduate students.
