FCT call for PhD grants

FCT has opened the 2008 call for applications for PhD individual Grants (first deadline 16 June, second deadline 15 September).

CAUP will support applications that are broadly relevant for the following research topics:
- Origin and Evolution of Stars and Planets (Star Formation and Early Evolution, Planetary Systems, Stellar Evolution)
- Galaxies and Evolution of the Universe (Physical Properties of Galaxies, Observational Cosmology)
- Scientific and Technical Development of Astronomical Instrumentation.

CAUP has the largest Astronomy research team in Portugal, and is the only institute in Astronomy awarded the highest classification by FCT. CAUP offers excellent conditions for the development of a PhD research project, and well established connections with major Astronomy research institutes in Europe. All PhD students are integrated in the ongoing national (FCT) and international (EC) funded projects.

The calendar, for the June deadline, is the following:
- 3 June: submission of a CV, together with a brief statement of research interests (with indication of the supervisor, if already defined)
- 5 June: pre-selected candidates will be contacted in order to proceed with the detailed preparation of the application
- up to 16 June: the full application is reviewed by CAUP and submitted to FCT

The calendar, for the September deadline, is the following:
- 1 Setember: submission of a CV, together with a brief statement of research interests (with indication of the supervisor, if already defined)
- 5 September: pre-selected candidates will be contacted in order to proceed with the detailed preparation of the application
- up to 15 September: the full application is reviewed by CAUP and submitted to FCT
