The Centro de Astrofisica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) opens a call for one Research Fellowship to work in the extra-solar group. The position is offered in the context 'Apoio complementar por parte da FCT de estímulo à participação nas acções Marie Curie', with financial support provided by FCT and in the project 'Gaia Research for European Astronomy Training (GREAT-ITN)' with financial support provided by European Commission..

The position is to be started by the 1st of October 2013, at the latest, and will end on the 31st of March, 2015.

The successful candidate is expected to pursue research in the analysis of high resolution near infrared spectra, with particular emphasis on the derivation of precise radial velocities. Expertise in the reduction of spectroscopic data or in telluric line correction (including the use of Earth's atmosphere transmission models) will be highly appreciated.

According to the rules of the National Science Foundation FCT, the yearly income is 17.940,00 euro (tax free).

• Cover letter/e-mail with a brief description of the candidate's experience and motivation;
• Short Curriculum Vitae (up to 4 pages) including a list of relevant scientific publications (up to 1 additional page);
• Name and contact details (position, email, address) of two referees, available to provide information about the candidate (to be contacted if considered necessary).

Selection Criteria

• The applicant must have completed a PhD degree. Only applications from candidates having an adequate background in Astronomy, Physics, Geophysics, Mathematics, or other relevant domains, will be considered.
• A short-list of candidates will be defined in the first stage of the evaluation based on the application submitted by email. The short-listed applicants may be required to attend an interview at CAUP for the second stage of the evaluation. If necessary the interview will be done by video- or tele-conference. The contracts will then be offered according to the ordering proposed by the selection committee.
