Research Assistant Fellowship

The Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) invites applications for a research assistant position in the field of Stellar Modelling.

The financial support is provided by the European Network in Helio and Asteroseismology(2006-2009) and national funds from POCI (with a participation from FEDER). The positions are for six months, with an extension of up to one year. The monthly allowance will be 745 euros (researchers with a B.Sc. or a Licenciatura) or 980 euros (researchers with a Masters).

CAUP is a young and active research institute situated at the main campus of the University of Porto.
It is the top astrophysics institute in the country and the only ranked excellent in this area by the national science foundation evaluation. The current staff includes 22 researchers and over 40 postgraduate students (Ph.D. students and two Master Programs). As a CAUP member the research assistant will have access to all facilities, including also travel money for participating in HELAS events.

The activities on Helio and Astero-seismology at CAUP cover the seismic study of solar-type and moderate-mass stars, from the pre-main sequence up to more advanced stages of evolution. Both theoretical and observational work is carried out by the group. The research assistant will be actively involved in the HELAS activities on solar and stellar modelling. She/he is also expected to be involved on the preparation of the CoRoT mission (CNES/France - with launch in 2006).
