Position in the field of extragalactic astrophysics

Ref: CAUP2013-02UnI-BI

The Centro de Astrofisica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) opens a call for one Research Fellowship to work with Dr. Andrew Humphrey and the Galaxies and Cosmology group. The position is offered in the context of the project Welcome II, with financial support provided by FCT. The position can be started as early as June 2013, and will end by 30 September 2014.

The successful candidate will focus primarily on the analysis of GTC optical spectroscopy of radio-loud active galaxies at z>2, as part of an ongoing project to understand the nature of the giant Lyman-alpha emitting nebulae and extended absorbers associated with this type of galaxy (e.g. 2013, ApJL, 768, L3; 2013, MNRAS, 428, 563H). Experience with the reduction and analysis of long slit spectroscopy of galaxies would therefore be advantageous. Pursuit of their own ongoing research, and collaboration with other researchers at CAUP, will also be encouraged.

According to the rules of the National Science Foundation FCT, the yearly income is 17.940,00 euro, which is tax free.
