The Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) is going to announce soon a call for applications for PhD individual Grants. These are individual grants for residents in Portugal, covering a period of 4 years and tuition fees.

• Origin and Evolution of Stars and Planets (Star Formation and Early Evolution, Planetary Systems, Stellar interiors and Atmospheres);
• Galaxies and Observational Cosmology (Galaxies and Clusters; Structure Formation, Dark Energy and Fundamental Physics);
• Scientific and Technical Development of Astronomical Instrumentation.

CAUP has the largest Astronomy research team in Portugal, and has been awarded the highest classification by FCT. CAUP offers excellent conditions for the development of PhD research projects, and has well established connections with major Astronomy research institutes in Europe. All PhD students are integrated in the ongoing national (FCT) and international (EC) funded projects.

All applications must follow the FCT regulations for research grants. Please note that these regulations may change for the 2013 call.

• 19 July: submission to CAUP of a CV, together with a brief statement of research interests
• 26 July: pre-selected candidates will be contacted in order to proceed with the detailed preparation of the application, under the supervision of a researcher at CAUP
• up to the deadline established by FCT: the full application is reviewed by the supervisor at CAUP and submitted by the candidate to FCT.
