First spectroscopic investigation of a microlensing event: what's going wrong?

Abstract
We attempted a pioneer radial velocity and spectroscopic follow-up of the bright (V~18) microlensing event OGLE-2011-BLG-0417 for which the lens was predicted to be a pair of M dwarfs. Our radial velocity data, obtained with the UVES spectrograph at the ESO-VLT, exhibit no variation with a RMS at the level of 100m/s. This is significantly lower than the predicted ~6km/s variation for the eccentric binary. Moreover, we also derived, for the first time, the spectroscopic parameters of the lens which turns out to be a G dwarf. Both spectroscopic investigation of this system show the difficulties to interpret microlensing events and the needs for follow-up observations.
