High Precision Radial-Velocity analysis using Fourier Transforms

Ana L. C. Soares

Abstract
The measurement of stellar radial velocities (RV) is currently the most important tool for planetary detections. In particular, the detection of Earth-mass planets requires a final precision of 10 cm/s, close to the grasp but not yet within reach of the most precise instrumentation. In order to optimally extract the information from stellar spectra in the RV calculation, we developed a program, based on the work of Chelli (2000), to measure stellar RV by analysing the spectra in the Fourier Space. I will present the results we obtained by applying the program to stellar CCFs, calibration spectra and stellar spectra. We were able to lower by roughly 30% the dispersion on calibration data, thus beating the noise to unprecedented levels. We also tested the program on spectra of rotating stars, with different rotational velocities, and I will present those results as well.
