Abstract
In 1926 in the opening paragraph of his now-classic book, The Internal Constitution of the Stars, Sir Arthur Eddington lamented, ‘What appliance can pierce through the outer layers of a star and test the conditions within?’ There is now an observational answer: asteroseismology, the real music of the spheres. In the talk, I will review my work on the oscillations of red giant stars using asteroseismology. The long-term NASA’s Kepler space observations provide excellent photometric data for the detection of solar-like oscillations that are the sounds of these stars. I will introduce how to interpret these oscillations observationally and theoretically, which contribute to the understanding of inner structure as well as the evolution of red giant stars.
