The Astronomia nas Escolas (Astronomy in the Schools) project involves a Starlab portable planetarium that takes astronomy to the class room, from pre-school to the 8th grade. Since 1990 the portable planetarium has had the participation of 164 000 students from all over the country.

This project also includes:

• mini exhibitions that can be rented by schools and other institutions;
• lectures to be presented in the schools by CAUP's researchers;
• telescope observing sessions;
• sundial construction workshops.
