Joint HELAS and CoRoT/ESTA Workshop
20-23 November 2006, CAUP, Porto - Portugal
Pratical information
Getting from Porto airport to the Hotels (Tuela, Fénix Porto, Ipanema Porto)
There are two options:
- A city taxi from the airport to the hotels costs about 25 EUR. The ride will take from 30m up to 1h depending on traffic conditions.
- The metro (departures every 20 minutes) costs about 2 EUR. From the airport, you need to take Line E (violet) until the stop "Casa da Música". The hotels are in 10 min walking distance and are easy to find with the map (total trip duration: 35m). For those with heavy luggage we recommend to take the taxi from the airport.
Getting from Porto airport to CAUP (Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto)
- You can take a city taxi from the airport to CAUP (Centro de Astrofísica). Please tell the driver to go to the "Planetário do Porto" which is located in the same building. The trip costs about ~25 EUR.
Getting from the Hotels to CAUP by foot (see the map)
- From the hotels Fénix Porto and Tuela Porto, go to "Rua Gonçalo Sampaio". Turn right to "Rua Campo Alegre". After 600 m turn left into "Via Panorâmica". Take the next street to your right (Rua das Estrelas). CAUP/Planetário do Porto is the building at the corner of "Via Panorâmica"/"Rua das Estrelas".
- From the hotel Ipanema Porto, go to "Rua Campo Alegre". After 700 m turn left into "Via Panorâmica". Take the next street to your right (Rua das Estrelas). CAUP/Planetário do Porto is the building at the corner of "Via Panorâmica"/"Rua das Estrelas".
Metro - pratical information
Metro tickets can be bought in machines accepting euro coins and bills. With this system you get a magnetic card (ANDANTE) that you can charge with more trips later on (so, don't throw away). For travels from the airport to the city you need to press zone Z4. This card is individual: two persons cannot use the same card. You can have a look at the metro web page at http://www.metrodoporto.pt for further information.
Restaurants
The map also shows the nearest restaurants from CAUP. Typical prices for lunch start around 5 EUR.
Power plugs in Portugal
We use "SHUKO" power plugs. In practice these are the "same" as in Spain and Germany but are different from the French, US, UK and Italian ones. You can have some pictures of plugs at http://www.powercords.co.uk/standard.htm. You need to bring your own adapter/converter.
