Numerical Simulation of Penetrative Convection - A Parametric Study

We present the results of 3-dimensional numerical simulations of convection using a Smagorinski sub-grid scale approximation and study of the general behaviour of penetrative convection and its scaling with the rms vertical velocity by varying the aspect ratio and position of the interface between the unstable and stable layer at the bottom of a convective layer.
