A T Tauri star database was set up. T Tauri stars are young, low mass
stars whose study is very relevant in the understanding of star formation
processes. In the first part of the project, spectra taken by local
researchers were reduced through the usual reduction processes applied on
raw CCD data, and a wavelength calibration was performed. For the
database software, FileMaker Pro 3.0 was chosen. This application is
available for both Apple Macintosh and PC compatibles. The main concerns
in structuring the database were to have a strong graphical component,
ease-of-use and hierarchic organization. The database is divided into
three main areas, Basic Characteristics, Photometry and
Spectroscopy (subdivided into subsections, from radio to X-rays). A
bibliography file was set up to convert numerical codes into references.
This file also allows the search of papers which mention a given star.
In the near future we plan to make the database available through the World-Wide-Web.
