Spectroscopic methods were used to verify and to improve atmospheric parameters estimated from photometry to pinpoint the position of FG Virginis in the HR diagram and to derive abundances. There was evidence from published analyses that this Scuti star is slightly metal overabundant compared to the sun. However, this could not be confirmed by applying the spectral synthesis technique to the high-resolution spectra available. The chemical abundances found for FG Virginis turned out to be solar.
An interesting feature in the spectrum is the V-like shape (narrow line core and broad wings) of line profiles which could be modelled by introducing macro-turbulent velocities in the range of about 5 to 12 kms-1 for individual spectral lines. This is probably an effect of pulsation and is also subject of investigation.
The results and problems of the different methods used for the determination of T eff and log g will also be described in this presentation.
