Notas biográficas
Pedro Viana obteve a Licenciatura em Física/Matemática Aplicada - ramo de Astronomia pela Universidade do Porto em 1992, o Mestrado em Astronomia pela Universidade de Sussex (Reino Unido) em 1993, e o Ph.D. pela Universidade de Sussex em 1996 (com equivalência ao grau de Doutor pela Universidade do Porto em 1998).

De Outubro de 1996 até Setembro de 1999 esteve em pós-doutoramento, primeiro na Universidade de Sussex (com financiamento do Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council - PPARC), até Setembro de 1997, e depois, começando em Outubro de 1997, no Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto (CAUP) com uma bolsa da Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). Desde Outubro de 1999 é Professor Auxiliar no Departamento de Matemática Aplicada da Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto.

A sua investigação actual centra-se na aplicação de técnicas associadas à inferência estatística bayesiana: na detecção e caracterização de sistemas exoplanetários; na identificação dos processos físicos que levaram à formação e evolução de galáxias e enxames de galáxias.
