The position is offered in the context of the project FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-029170 (Reference FCT PTDC/FIS-AST/3214/2012), with financial support provided by FCT-MEC (PIDDAC) and FEDER (COMPETE), with the title "An exploration of the assembly history of galaxies with the novel concept of self-consistent spectral synthesis".

The successful candidate should preferably start on 1st July 2013 and he/she is expected to pursue research in the following fields:
  • Exploration of the star formation history and chemical enrichment history of galaxies with spectral synthesis models;
  • Chemical abundance determinations using emission-line spectroscopy;
  • Studies of the photometric structure of galaxies using surface photometry.

The fellowship contract will comply with the 'Regulamento de Formação Avançada' of the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). According to the rules of the FCT, the monthly allowance will be 980€ (tax free). The contract will initially be offered for a period of 6 months, renewable to up to 18 months, upon satisfactory progress of the student.
