The teaching of Astronomy at the Universidade do Porto had its beginning in 1984, with the appearance at the Faculdade de Ciências of the "Licenciatura" in Physics/Applied Mathematics - Astronomy.
Between 1994 and 1999, there was an Inter-university Master in Astronomy involving several european universities. This was followed by the present Master in Astronomy, which provides an advanced scientific formation in Astronomy for future researchers in Astronomy.
A Master in Teaching of Astronomy was created in 1997 (currently named Masters in curricular Developement Through Astronomy), with the main objective of providing a formation in Astronomy to basic and secondary school teachers.
The Doctoral Programme in Astronomy had its first edition in 2004, and also aims at providing advanced scientific formation in Astronomy.

From the start of activities in 1990, the Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto has actively participated in all the formation in Astronomy offered by the Universidade do Porto.
