Abstract
White shark cage diving is a popular recreational attraction in many coastal regions. For those adventurous enough to go cage diving with these animals, appreciating their behavior may be quite spectacular.
The white shark is widely distributed throughout most oceans in temperate and subtropical regions, but in most places it is rare. Dyer Island Nature Reserve, which is located 7.5 km off Gansbaai, South Africa, is one of these ‘Great White hot spots’. Here I will talk about how it looks, and how it feels, to go cage diving near Dyer Island (South Africa). I take this opportunity to illustrate some physical aspects of the Ocean that are related to the ‘Great White Shark’ and to talk about understanding patterns of their habitat use with regards to physical features of the environment.
