Centro de Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto
11-12 December 2013, Porto, Portugal

The currently applicable E-ELT instrumentation plan will offer a High Resolution Spectrograph as part of its suite of instruments soon after the first-light set of Adaptive Optics modules and Scientific Instruments.

In this context, HIRES is currently a joint initiative by nine interested partners from Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

More information can be found at the HIRES webpage.

In the next six months the HIRES initiative has the main goal to "shape" an instrument and "structure" a Consortium.

The purpose of the Porto face-to-face meeting is structuring the Science Team and organizing its activities iin order to 1) identify key "design driver" science cases, starting from the ouput of the White Paper; 2) derive a list of Top Level Requirements to be passed to the Technical Team who will build a viable (and payable) instrument concept around them; 3) providing a list of science priorities for Guarantee Time Observations.
