How to Reach the Hotels from the Airport?
If you take a city taxi from the airport to the hotels it should cost
less than 25 EUR, usually between 18-22 EUR. The hotel reservations
are all confirmed and therefore you can check-in directly at the
hotel.
Another way to get from the airport to your hotel is to catch the 'Aerobus'.
This bus departures from the airport every 1/2 hour between 07:45 and 19:15.
In principle the driver will drive you to your hotel, if you ask him to. If that is not
possible at all, the best way is to get out at 'Praça Mouzinho de Albuquerque', commonly known as
'Rotunda da Boavista'. All three hotels are at walking distance from there (please check the map for
the conference). The price of the ticket is 2,60 EUR for all airlines except for TAP. For
TAP passengers the bus is free (you need to show your TAP boarding card).

How to Reach the Workshop Venue from the Hotels?
The venue of the workshop is the auditorium of the "Centro de
Astrofísica da Universidade do Porto". The Center of Astrophysics is inside a
red colored brick building that is popularly known as "Planetário",
since the city planetarium also shares the same building. This building
is located within the university campus, where other faculty buildings
can also be found.
To access the workshop venue, walk on "Rua do Campo Alegre" towards
south west (this road is approximately east-west, so follow the sun)
and take a left when you see the sign board "Planetário". The
buliding is within 300m of walking on this small road left.
Hotel Ipanema Porto is located on the "Rua do Campo Alegre" itself,
whereas Hotel Tuela and Hotel Fenix are located slightly off (by 300m
on a perpendicular road to Campo Alegre street). All hotels are
located within 10-15 minutes of walking distance from the venue.
Where to find food?
There are a few restaurants located within 15min walking distance to
the workshop venue. Many are spread over the Street "Rua do Campo
Alegre". The following list of restaurants are suited for lunch time.
Several restaurants and small cafes near down town and by the side of
the river (popularly known as Ribeira) serve both lunch and dinner at
attractive prices and also of good quality (typically 5 EUR per meal
with wine and coffee included). The downtown and Ribeira is worth
trying for dinner when you are not constrained by time.
Higher price range (10-15 EUR per person): Capa Negra, Restaurante do
Campo Alegre, Alicantina, Cervajaria Galiza, Gambamar.
Medium price range (8-10 EUR per person): Franganito (take the street
in front of Capa Negra Restaurant), Pasta Caffe.
Low Price Range: There is a big shopping complex called Bom Successo
right by the side of Hotel Fenix where you can find a variety of
food. Regular meals are available at the shop called "Comida e volta"
on the top floor. Besides there are canteens within the Planetário and
Facultade de Ciências that serve food and snacks.
How to reach Downtown and Ribeira?
There are city buses available from Rua do Campo Alegre to Downtown.
You can take the buses numbered 35, 36, or 78 from any of the bus
stops on Rua do Campo Alegre going downhill. The cost is 1 EUR and you
should look for the direction "Praça de Liberdade" which refers to city
square. From Downtown the Ribeira is 10-15minutes walking
distance. The buses are available at a frequency of 15-20 minutes until
20:00 and frequency of 20-30minutes after 20:00 until
midnight. The bus service extends beyond midnight on hourly basis.
Another way to reach Ribeira is to directly climb the footsteps down
in front of the planetario from where you can actually see the
river. Walking to downtown can take 30-40 minutes depending upon
which way you choose.
Meteorological predictions
Although sometimes unpredictable, the weather is usually nice and warm in Porto at that
time of the year - mean temperature of 21 degrees. However, it can get foggy in
the mornings. It is possible that you will get some rain...
